ESCONDIDA

Pennisula Papagayo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Under Construction 2024

Escondida is defined and shaped by towering specimen trees, and the presence of the Pacific ocean—it is the intertwining result of the preservation of those trees and the calibration of particularized views of the ocean from all the spaces of the house. The overlapping house components descend toward the beach, twisting and turning as they adjust to tree position. The raw power of cast-in-place concrete and the massive tree trunks juxtapose to the delicacy of the jungle foliage in an entwining dance. The closer proximity to the water of the Escondida site allows a lower pool terrace to be located just above the beach.
